The Sarawak Infectious Disease Centre (SIDC) has acquired the PacBio Revio, one of the most advanced long-read sequencing systems available today. As a core facility serving researchers across Borneo, this investment marks a significant milestone in bringing world-class genomic sequencing capabilities to the region.
The PacBio Revio delivers highly accurate HiFi long reads, enabling SIDC to tackle complex research questions that short-read technologies cannot resolve — from whole genome sequencing of novel pathogens to metagenomics, antimicrobial resistance profiling, and structural variant detection.
This acquisition positions SIDC as a leading genomics hub in Southeast Asia, offering researchers in Sarawak and the wider region access to sequencing technology previously only available in major international centres.
